Birla Cellulose Boosts Sustainability At Karur Meet, Unveils New Trials

Birla Cellulose, a leader in sustainable fiber solutions, reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability during the second edition of its hub-meet, held at The Residency in Karur on August 30, 2024. The event highlighted the transformative potential of sustainable Man-Made Cellulosic Fibers (MMCF) in the Home Textiles sector. Attended by 110 prominent exporters and business owners from the Karur cluster, the focus was on driving innovation toward sustainable practices.

The key discussions centered around applying sustainable MMCF solutions in home textiles, paving the way for eco-friendly, high-quality products that meet the growing demand for sustainability among modern consumers.

Notable guests included Gopal Krishnan, President of the Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association, Velusamy, Assistant Director of the Textile Committee in Karur, as well as industry leaders like Perumal, Managing Director of South Indian Textiles, and Kaliappan, Managing Director of Anboli Fabrics.

Value chain partners such as AGT Mills, PKPN, Kumaran, Sutlej Textiles, and Kumaraguru Mills also participated, showcasing a collective commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the textile ecosystem.

One of the event’s highlights was the significant interest shown by exporters in Birla Cellulose’s innovative offerings, particularly the flagship product Spunshades. This product features Colour Lock Technology, which prevents fading even after multiple washes, as the dye pigments are embedded into the fiber rather than applied through conventional piece-dyeing.

“Karur’s home textile industry, valued at around Rs 9,000 Cr, welcomes Birla Cellulose’s initiative to guide us toward adopting MMCF solutions. We are optimistic about incorporating these fibers into our regular product lines and have already started the incubation process. We look forward to sustainable and economical alternatives to existing raw materials,” said Gopal Krishnan, President of the Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association.

Kaliappan, Managing Director of Anboli Fabrics, added, “The comprehensive presentation on Birla Cellulose’s product offerings provided valuable insights into their potential applications in home textiles.”

T. Murugan, President and Global Head of Business Development at Birla Cellulose, expressed his delight at the positive response from industry leaders and exporters, saying, “The enthusiasm for exploring our products, such as Spunshades and Lyocell blends with cotton, strengthens our confidence in the transformative power of responsible innovation. We believe these solutions will redefine the Home Textiles landscape.”
