Centre Backs Andhra Pradesh’s Push To Emerge As A Major Textile Manufacturing Hub

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting Andhra Pradesh’s transformation into a major textile manufacturing destination, highlighting the need for stronger cotton productivity, modern manufacturing capabilities and greater participation in technical textiles.

During his two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh, the Union Minister visited the Spintex India facility at Mallavalli Industrial Park in Krishna district, where he interacted with industry stakeholders and reviewed the state’s growing textile manufacturing capabilities.

The visit included discussions with industrial leaders on expanding silk and textile-related investments in the state. Singh also indicated that he would hold further consultations with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to outline a roadmap for positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading textile production hub.

A key focus of the discussions was the urgent need to enhance cotton productivity. Singh pointed out that India’s average cotton yield remains significantly below global standards, underscoring the importance of advanced seed technology, modern agronomic practices and focused policy interventions to strengthen raw material availability for the textile value chain.

The minister noted that Andhra Pradesh already holds a strong position in the handloom sector and confirmed that the Centre has approved one textile cluster for the state, while another proposal is currently under review.

He stressed that closer coordination between the central and state governments will be essential to further strengthen handloom and integrated textile manufacturing in the region.

Highlighting future growth opportunities, Singh said technical textiles represent a major area of expansion for Andhra Pradesh, particularly in high-value segments such as glass fibre, carbon fibre and graphene-based materials. He is also scheduled to inaugurate a glass fibre manufacturing unit in Visakhapatnam.

Referring to the Centre’s Rs 10,860 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles, Singh encouraged Andhra Pradesh to secure a substantial share of the available incentives to accelerate industrial expansion, attract fresh investments and strengthen its competitiveness across both traditional and advanced textile segments.

The visit signals growing policy momentum to position Andhra Pradesh as a strategic textile growth centre within India’s evolving manufacturing landscape.
