Centre Clears Rs 1894 Cr. PM MITRA Park For Tamil Nadu

In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s goal of becoming a global textile hub, the Union government has approved a Rs 1894-crore development plan for the Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Virudhunagar district.
Announced by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh yesterday, the project will be developed over 1052 acres and will house a next-generation textile manufacturing ecosystem focused on technical textiles and integrated processing units. It is one of seven such parks being set up across India under the Centre’s flagship PM MITRA scheme aimed at modernising the textile sector with world-class infrastructure, policy support, and investment incentives.
The project, formalised in 2023, is the outcome of prolonged discussions between Chief Minister M K Stalin’s government and the Union Textile Ministry. State Industries Minister T R B Rajaa welcomed the Centre’s approval, calling it “a result of relentless follow-up and collaboration” and a major opportunity for the state’s textile industry.
Slated for completion by September 2026, the park is projected to attract Rs 10,000 crore in investments and generate one lakh jobs. “Tamil Nadu is already India’s top textile exporter. This park is a step towards scaling up our capabilities with renewed ambition,” Rajaa said.
The PM MITRA Park will feature:
- A 15 MLD common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge
- A 5 MLD sewage treatment plant
- Worker housing for 10,000 people
- 1.3 million sq. ft. of plug-and-play and built-to-suit factory space
Tamil Nadu now joins Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh as one of the seven states selected to host PM MITRA parks, marking a new chapter in India’s textile growth journey.
