Textile Ministry Plans New Schemes Beyond PLI-II

The Union Ministry of Textiles is exploring the introduction of new schemes for the sector in addition to the proposed second phase of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI-II). Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, stated during a media interaction in Coimbatore today (June 30, 2025) that the government remains committed to the holistic development of the textile value chain from traditional handlooms to advanced technical textiles.
“Stakeholders have raised the need for PLI-II, and while it is under active consideration, we are also looking at launching other supportive schemes,” he said.
Responding to industry concerns over the stringent Quality Control Orders (QCOs), Margherita noted that the government is engaging with stakeholders and reviewing trade-related inputs to address these challenges.
On the issue of the National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in Tamil Nadu, which have faced closure, the Minister acknowledged the demands raised by trade unions for their reopening. “They have submitted their appeals. Our Ministry is in regular touch with them. We stand with the employees of NTC and are optimistic that their issues will be resolved,” he added.
