Giriraj Singh Reviews Key Textile Initiatives To Boost Technology And MSME Growth

Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of key initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s textile sector through technology upgradation, institutional reforms and enhanced industry support.

The Minister reviewed the transformation of the erstwhile Powerloom Service Centres into Integrated Textile and Apparel Development Centres (ITADCs), which are being developed as one-stop facilitation hubs for textile entrepreneurs, MSMEs and startups. The centres offer services including skill development, testing, design support, technology adoption, credit facilitation, export promotion and market linkages.

During the first quarter of FY2026-27, ITADCs trained over 1,170 individuals, reached nearly 1,770 textile units through outreach programmes, facilitated institutional credit, strengthened e-commerce linkages and promoted entrepreneurship. The centres also supported the commercialisation of emerging sustainable fibres such as bamboo, hemp, flax, banana and pineapple.

Giriraj Singh said ITADCs are evolving into innovation and enterprise development centres that will play a key role in strengthening MSMEs, promoting exports, generating employment and building a globally competitive and self-reliant textile industry.

The Minister also reviewed the implementation of the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) and appreciated its continued contribution towards modernising India’s textile manufacturing sector through technology adoption and capacity enhancement.
