CITI Welcomes Government-Wide Task Force On Textiles To Boost Export Growth

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has welcomed the Ministry of Commerce’s formation of a dedicated Task Force on Textiles, which aims to adopt a whole-of-government approach to enhance India’s textile exports. CITI Chairman Shri Rakesh Mehra commended the initiative, stating that it will enable exporters to fully leverage existing and upcoming trade agreements.
The Task Force, chaired by Commerce Secretary Mr. Sunil Barthwal, includes all major textile export promotion councils, industry associations, and key ministries and departments such as the Ministry of Textiles, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Labour, MSME Ministry, Skill Development Ministry, Department of Revenue, DGFT, DPIIT, BIS, and others.
This inter-ministerial effort will address policy and procedural challenges and focus on diverse issues including the performance of textile exports in 20 key countries (including FTA partners), sustainability and ESG compliance, e-commerce potential, skill development, the effectiveness of schemes like PLI and PM MITRA, and Quality Control Orders.
With a target to scale textile exports to $100 billion by 2030, the Task Force aims to deepen India’s trade with key global markets such as the US, UK, and EU. Recognizing the textile sector’s vital role as a top export earner, employment generator, and contributor to India’s economic development, CITI expressed confidence in the sector’s ability to significantly support the Viksit Bharat vision.
CITI reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Centre, state governments, and MSMEs to enhance the competitiveness of the textile industry through innovation, sustainability, and skill development.
