Egypt To Develop Two Textile Cities To Boost Exports To US$ 11.5 Billion By 2030

Egypt is set to establish two fully integrated textile cities in Minya and Fayyoum, each spanning 5.5 million square meters, with a combined investment potential of US$ 3.5 billion from both domestic and foreign sources. This ambitious initiative, announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir, aims to elevate the country’s textile exports from US$ 2.8 billion to US$ 11.5 billion annually by 2030.

The textile city in Wadi Al-Asria, Minya, will be the first of its kind in Upper Egypt, with construction costs estimated at EGP 12 billion (approximately US$ 315.79 million). Both cities will serve as models for specialized industrial hubs, incorporating logistics and service zones designed to streamline operations across the textile value chain.

These developments will house end-to-end facilities—from spinning, weaving, dyeing, and garment manufacturing to home textiles and allied industries—creating a self-contained ecosystem. They will also include training institutes, investor support centers, healthcare services, exhibition spaces, R&D centers, and logistics infrastructure to support seamless production and trade.

Aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy, the initiative underscores the growing importance of the industrial sector, which currently contributes about 14% to the country’s GDP. The government aims to raise this share to over 20% by strengthening industrial output, generating foreign exchange, creating employment, and improving living standards.

Minya and Fayyoum were strategically selected for their proximity to ports, transportation networks, and population centers, ensuring access to skilled labor and efficient distribution channels. The project will follow an industrial developer model in partnership with the private sector, where developers will oversee planning, infrastructure, operations, and marketing, while the government facilitates regulatory procedures.

The launch of these integrated textile cities represents a transformative move in Egypt’s industrial journey, poised to enhance its global competitiveness in textiles and drive sustainable economic growth.
