Trelleborg Partners With NTU To Advance Smart Medical Textiles

Trelleborg, a global leader in engineered coated fabrics, has entered a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) Medical Technologies Innovation Facility, supported by Innovate UK. The collaboration will focus on advancing Trelleborg’s capabilities in smart fabrics for healthcare applications, aiming to develop an innovative smart mattress system to enhance patient care and reduce medical interventions.

The partnership will leverage NTU’s expertise in smart medical textiles and Trelleborg’s experience in engineered coated fabrics, especially through its Dartex® brand. Together, they will develop sensing technologies and seamless solutions that can transform patient outcomes by improving comfort and healthcare efficiency.

Dr. Yang Wei of NTU’s Medical Technologies Innovation Facility said, “This KTP combines academic research and industry expertise to create impactful solutions for the healthcare sector.” Antony Croston, Commercial Director Healthcare & Medical for Trelleborg, added, “By merging NTU’s research with our capabilities, we aim to revolutionize healthcare textiles.”

The KTP, a 26-month initiative, will focus on creating sensing systems, data visualization tools, and scalable solutions for global healthcare markets, ultimately driving advancements in medical textiles.
