Fashion For Good Launches ‘World Of Waste’ Tool To Tackle Textile Waste

Fashion for Good, with catalytic funding from Laudes Foundation and IDH, has launched World of Waste, a free online tool developed in partnership with Reverse Resources, Global Fashion Agenda, Circle Economy and Accelerating Circularity. The platform maps global textile waste hotspots, providing aggregated data on waste volume, composition and type, helping recyclers and innovators identify and utilize textile waste resources more effectively.
Addressing the Gap in Textile Waste Data
The textile industry is facing increasing scrutiny over its waste generation, presenting both challenges and opportunities for circularity and transparency. Despite efforts to track and reduce waste, data on textile waste is fragmented, hindering the industry’s ability to capitalize on this resource.
The World of Waste tool consolidates data from multiple sources, offering insights into waste quantities, types and compositions, along with links to original studies. This centralized platform helps stakeholders, including recyclers, brands, governments and innovators, access the information needed to drive circular practices in the textile industry.
Katrin Ley, Managing Director of Fashion for Good, said, “We’re excited to launch worldofwaste.co, empowering recyclers and innovators with insights into waste volumes and compositions, helping turn waste into valuable resources.”
The platform also provides insights to help governments develop informed policies and foster collaborations between local and international stakeholders, addressing operational challenges in circularity.
Pramit Chanda, Global Director-Textiles & Manufacturing at IDH, commented, “This initiative aims to create a global database of textile waste, unlocking opportunities to optimize sourcing and enhance the recycling ecosystem.”
Anita Chester, Head of Fashion at Laudes Foundation, added, “Access to accurate data on textile waste will be key to solving the issue across fashion’s supply chain, encouraging industry investment and policy change.”
The platform’s coverage will expand over time, adding data from more regions and waste categories, offering deeper insights to drive meaningful change in the fashion industry.
