Giriraj Singh Pushes Cotton, MMF Mission

Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, chaired the Textile Advisory Group (TAG) meeting on Cotton and Man-Made Fibres (MMF) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to review progress and discuss strategies to strengthen the entire textile value chain. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, Secretary Textiles Neelam Shami Rao, and senior officials from key ministries, research institutes, and industry bodies.
Addressing the gathering, Giriraj Singh highlighted the government’s Mission for Cotton Productivity, which aims to enhance cotton yield and quality to align with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s 5F vision, Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign. He emphasized the importance of innovation, integration, scale, and speed as core pillars to achieve the textile sector’s export target of USD 350 billion by 2030.
The Union Minister highlighted the need for data mapping and a comprehensive gap analysis across the demand-supply chain to ensure targeted policy interventions. He also spotlighted milkweed as an emerging fibre source with significant potential, citing its thermal and physical properties and its ability to generate income for farmers.
Minister of State Pabitra Margherita called for unified industry efforts to fulfil Vision 2030, advocating sustainable farming practices and adoption of advanced technologies to boost cotton quality and farmer incomes.
Secretary Textiles Neelam Shami Rao reiterated the need for industry collaboration, integration across the value chain, and a strategic roadmap that leverages innovation to enhance competitiveness.
Industry leaders welcomed the government’s proactive stance on technology adoption, sustainable fibre promotion, and farmer-industry alignment, reinforcing a collective commitment toward long-term growth of the Indian textile ecosystem.
