Government Clears Rs 305-Crore ‘Tex-RAMPS’ Scheme To Boost Research, Innovation In Textile Sector

The Government of India has approved the Rs 305-crore Textiles Focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning and Start-up (Tex-RAMPS) Scheme, a major initiative aimed at strengthening research, innovation and global competitiveness in the textile industry.
Announced on 27 November 2025, the scheme will be implemented as a fully funded Central Sector programme by the Ministry of Textiles for the period FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31, aligning with the next Finance Commission cycle.
Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said that Tex-RAMPS integrates research, data systems and innovation to empower the textile sector and position India as a global leader in sustainability, technology and competitiveness. The initiative is designed to future-proof the textiles and apparel (T&A) ecosystem by addressing critical gaps and building a strong foundation for long-term growth.
A key focus of Tex-RAMPS is promoting advanced research and innovation in areas such as smart textiles, sustainability, process optimisation and emerging technologies. The scheme places strong emphasis on strengthening data, analytics and diagnostics through comprehensive employment assessments, supply chain mapping and the continuation of the India-Size study.
The programme also introduces the Integrated Textiles Statistical System (ITSS), a real-time data and analytics platform aimed at supporting structured monitoring and informed decision-making. Alongside this, Tex-RAMPS seeks to boost capacity development within the sector through State-level planning support, knowledge-sharing initiatives, training workshops and sectoral events.
To nurture high-value entrepreneurship, the scheme includes dedicated support for start-ups through incubators, hackathons and enhanced academia-industry collaboration. These efforts are expected to stimulate innovation and drive the emergence of next-generation textile enterprises.
By fostering a stronger research ecosystem, improving data-driven policymaking and supporting new ventures, the government anticipates that Tex-RAMPS will enhance India’s global competitiveness, create employment opportunities and deepen collaboration across States, industry, academia and institutions. With its holistic approach, the Tex-RAMPS Scheme marks a significant step toward developing a resilient, technology-driven and future-ready textile ecosystem for India.
