GTTES 2025 Expo Showcases Textile Innovation, Investments and Sustainability

The Indian International Textile Machinery Exhibitions Society (India ITME Society) held the third edition of the Global Textile Technology and Engineering Show (GTTES 2025) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, Goregaon (East), Mumbai from February 21-23, 2025. The three-day event marked a significant milestone for India’s textile industry, highlighting technological advancements and fostering global collaborations.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr Kailash Shinde, Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Roop Rashi Mahapatra, Textiles Commissioner of India, Gideon Labane, Consul General of South Africa, Alexandre Matsuko, Consul General of Belarus, and several other international officials, reinforcing its global significance.
Ketan Sanghvi, Chairman of India ITME Society, emphasized GTTES’ role as a hub for technological exchange, bringing together 39 countries and 210 exhibitors. He highlighted the textile industry’s contribution of 13% to industrial production, 2.3% to GDP and 12% of India’s foreign exchange inflows, underlining GTTES’ commitment to driving business and trade growth.
Roop Rashi Mahapatra praised Mumbai’s leadership in adopting cutting-edge textile technology, acknowledging key contributors like SBI Foundation and NIFT. Dr Kailash Shinde stressed the importance of sustainability, unveiling a pilot project with Reliance Industries and Mumbai Municipal Corporation to recycle 2.4 kilo tonnes of textile waste annually.

A key session by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) addressed standardization in textile machinery and Open Trading Rights (OTR). The event also hosted a symposium on Indigenous Development of Textile Machinery, organized by VJTI, FSID and IISc Bangalore, aimed at promoting self-reliance in manufacturing.
The second day of GTTES 2025 witnessed high-impact discussions, investment summits and sustainability-driven initiatives.
The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd investment summit held at the B2B pavilion highlighted the state’s growing textile sector potential. Officials, including Praveen Shukla, Additional Director, and Diksha Purohit, Principal Consultant, emphasized Chhattisgarh’s power surplus, thriving MSME ecosystem and the upcoming textile park in Jangir Champa.
Ketan Sanghvi pointed out that the state’s Industrial Development Policy (2024-2030) aligns with the textile industry’s growth ambitions, fostering investment and collaboration. Praveen Shukla noted that Chhattisgarh’s US$ 35.9 billion textile exports over 24 years position it as an emerging hub for cotton, silk and man-made fabrics.
The B2B Pavilion witnessed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), including a significant partnership with the Asian Arab Chamber of Commerce to enhance bilateral trade and cross-border investments in textiles.
Murtuza Shabbir Arsiwala, Honorary Trade Commissioner of the Chamber, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Indian textile companies, reinforcing the industry’s global trade significance.
A special session, “Threads of Transformation,” co-organized by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Textile Committee, HSNC, SBI Foundation, and TISSER, focused on post-consumer textile recycling. This initiative supports over 200 artisan cultures across 25+ states, ensuring sustainability and the preservation of traditional crafts.
The event also saw the official launch of India ITME 2026 and the India ITME Awards, recognizing excellence in textile innovation.
