Indian Govt Initiates Pilot Project To Hike Cotton Output
The Indian government through the Textiles Ministry has initiated a pilot project in 10 states involving 15,000 farmers to hike output of the very best Indian cotton quality, by adopting best worldwide agricultural practices.
“The outcome of this pilot project is expected in January 2024 and the data will be evaluated by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), after which we will be able to analyse the impact,” Textile Secretary Rachna Shah said
The Textiles Secretary provided this information at a press conference to announce the agenda of the 81st plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) to be held in Mumbai from December 2, 2023.
The pilot project is being run in 10 major cotton growing states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
“We are working with the Agriculture Ministry and other stakeholders to hike cotton productivity by adopting best practices like quality seeds and high density planting system have been employed,” she added.
At the plenary meeting, India will display its innovations, achievements and best practices and also unveils textile products made of Kasturi brand cotton, an Indian cotton brand, before a global audience for the first time.
