India’s Apparel Exports Surge 12.9% In December 2024

India’s apparel exports registered a strong growth of 12.9% in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, despite global economic challenges and subdued demand from major markets. The cumulative exports for April–December 2024-25 reached US$ 11,316.2 million, reflecting a growth of 11.6% over the corresponding period in 2023-24.
Commenting on this performance, Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), stated, “Apparel exports have been registering robust growth for the last six months. This is an opportune moment for India to capitalize on this momentum, expand global footprints and explore new markets.”
Highlighting the upcoming Bharat Tex 2025, Sekhri noted that the event would offer an excellent platform for forging new business alliances and partnerships to further strengthen the industry. The expo will focus on promoting innovation, sustainability and global branding, while also encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) in the textile sector.
India’s apparel exports have shown significant growth in major markets during April–November 2024-25, with increases of:
- 3% in the USA
- 1% in the UK
- 9% in Germany
- 7% in Spain
- 6% in the Netherlands
Additionally, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) markets have also witnessed robust growth, with exports to:
- Korea up by 22.7%
- Japan up by 9%
- Australia up by 9.8%
- Mauritius up by 16.6%
Sekhri emphasized that the long-term outlook for Indian apparel exports remains positive, driven by improved product acceptance, adaptability to changing consumer trends, compliance-focused factories and industry-friendly government policies.
The Bharat Tex Expo 2025 is set to provide a dynamic platform for collaboration, sourcing networks and showcasing India’s textile industry on a global stage.
