India’s MMF & Technical Textiles Exports Surge, Says MoS Pabitra Margherita

India’s man-made fibre (MMF) and technical textiles sectors are gaining global traction, recording strong export growth in 2024–25, Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said in Mumbai.
Speaking at MATEXIL’s Export Award Function for 2023–24 and 2024–25, the minister said MMF exports grew 6.5%, while technical textiles exports jumped over 15%, underscoring India’s increasing competitiveness in these high-value segments.
Margherita said the growth is steering India closer to its target of US$ 100 billion in textile exports and a US$ 350 billion domestic textile market by 2030, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. With global demand for high-performance and sustainable materials at a peak, he noted that India is well-positioned to expand its share in the international market.
The minister highlighted that India’s high-quality offerings are strengthening its image as a trusted global supplier. Nearly 80 companies were honoured for export excellence across technical textile categories at the event.
He added that MMF and technical textiles are leading global shifts toward advanced and sustainable materials, with MMF alone commanding 70–75% of the global fibre market.
Margherita also pointed to the government’s industry-supportive approach, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh for reducing operational hurdles and strengthening the textile value chain.
Key initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the National Technical Textiles Mission have accelerated capability-building. Under the PLI scheme, 17 newly approved companies have committed investments worth Rs 2,374 crore, he noted.
