Italian Textile Machinery Orders Decline 19% In Q4 2024

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the index of orders for Italian textile machinery, compiled by ACIMIT’s Economics Department, dropped by 19% compared to the same period in 2023. The index stood at 49.6 points (base 2021=100).

The decline was driven by weak foreign demand, despite a modest 6% rise in domestic orders. Overseas, orders fell by 22%, with the index at 48.3 points, while in Italy, it reached 58.5 points. The order backlog at the end of the quarter ensured 3.3 months of production.

For the full year 2024, the order index declined by 16% compared to 2023. Domestic demand grew by 10%, but foreign orders dropped by 19%.

ACIMIT President Marco Salvadè stated, “The October-December 2024 data confirm a weak order intake, especially from foreign markets. Our exports declined in all major destinations in the first 10 months of 2024, except for China. Turkey, India, the U.S., and Germany all saw a drop compared to 2023.”
