ITAMMA Seminar Promotes “ATMA Nirbhar Bharat” with a Focus on Skilling and Textile Technology

On September 9, 2023, the Indian Textile Accessories and Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (ITAMMA) held a seminar titled “Skilling, Lean, and Textile Technology” at Hotel HYATT Regency in Ahmedabad. The event aimed to promote self-reliance in India’s textile industry and enhance skills and technology adoption.

Nimesh Shah, President of ITAMMA, highlighted the importance of industry experts, industrialists, and government bodies in fostering successful industry projects during his opening remarks. He expressed optimism that the initiative would benefit all sectors of the textile industry.

The seminar featured a special interactive B2B session on “Skilling opportunities in the Indian Textile Engineering Industry,” with key government authorities in attendance. R.D. Barhatt, Joint Commissioner of Industries in Gandhinagar, discussed the Gujarat Textile Value Chain and the existing skilling gap, drawing parallels with the Bangladesh Apparel Industry.

Shalini Singh, COO & acting CEO of the Capital Goods & Strategic Skill Council in New Delhi, emphasized the need to bridge skill gaps in the textile industry and outlined collaborative strategies with ITAMMA.

Nirav Desai, Principal at Industrial Training Institute – Kubernagar in Ahmedabad and Asst. Director at Skill Development Directorate in Surat, and his team elaborated on the benefits of various skilling and training schemes offered by the Gujarat State.

Rahul N Kirkire, Regional Director of the National Productivity Council (NPC) in Gandhinagar, presented “LEAN PROGRAMME” and the latest schemes from the MSME Ministry at the Central level. This presentation prompted ITAMMA’s Gujarat Chapter to consider implementing the Lean Competitiveness Programme in various clusters within Gujarat.

The technology-focused session featured presentations by Tarun Purohit, Founder of Limelight IT, Ahmedabad, on “INDUSTRIES 4.0 SOLUTIONS,” and TAPAN UPADHYAY, Head of Application Engineering Business Region at Festo India, on “Digitalization and Industry 4.0.”

During the session on “Skilling Opportunities in Textile Engineering,” Sanjay Bharadwaj, Human Resource at the Capital Goods & Strategic Skill Council in New Delhi, discussed CGSSC’s initiatives in the field. An MoU was signed between Shalini Singh and Nimesh Shah to formalize collaboration between ITAMMA and CGSSC in this area.

A special felicitation ceremony recognized ITAMMA members for their remarkable contributions to India’s “Chandrayaan-3 Space Mission.” Honored were SIDDHI Group of Ahmedabad, Himson Industrial Ceramic Pvt. Ltd. of Surat and Precise Industries of Ahmedabad.

The progress of the SMART DATA Clinic, developed in collaboration with SAMBUQ Team, was presented by Mehul Goswami, Director/Digital Business Enabler at Sambuq.com India Pvt Ltd. ITAMMA expressed its anticipation that this Business Enabler Platform would revolutionize the textile industry.

Bhaveshkumar Patel, Vice-President of ITAMMA, delivered the vote of thanks, concluding the seminar on a positive note.

This seminar, with its focus on skilling and technology, underscored ITAMMA’s commitment to advancing the textile industry in India and fostering self-reliance as part of the “ATMA Nirbhar Bharat” initiative.
