ITC And CITI Host Sensitization Event On EU Due Diligence Rules For Textile Exporters

The International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) are jointly organizing a sensitization event to help Indian textile and garment exporters understand evolving EU sustainability expectations under the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D).

Adopted in 2024, the CS3D requires large companies operating in the EU to identify, prevent and mitigate human rights and environmental risks across their operations and global value chains. These obligations are expected to extend to suppliers outside the EU, including Indian manufacturers, particularly in sectors with higher exposure to social and environmental impacts.

To support small and medium-sized enterprises, ITC has launched an EU-funded project providing global public goods and technical assistance to help exporting firms assess their preparedness for CS3D-related requirements. The awareness event will introduce a new online CS3D Supplier Preparedness Diagnostic Tool and demonstrate how it can be applied within India’s textile ecosystem to strengthen compliance readiness.

Participants will be briefed on EU market sustainability requirements, their growing relevance for export competitiveness, and how the new digital tool can support capacity building. The workshop aims to bring together key industry stakeholders to foster dialogue, enhance understanding, and equip SMEs with the knowledge needed to navigate emerging due diligence expectations in global trade.
