Konica Minolta Hits 100% Renewable Energy Milestone

Konica Minolta, Inc. has announced that Konica Minolta Mechatronics Co. Ltd., its digital printing systems production site in Japan, has successfully achieved the goal of sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. As a result, all of Konica Minolta’s global production sites that manufacture MFPs and digital printing systems (excluding toner production) now procure all their electricity from renewable energy.

Konica Minolta Mechatronics, a key producer of Konica Minolta’s digital printing systems, continues to drive transformation in production through “production DX.” This initiative integrates advanced production technologies and expertise in imaging, optics and precision parts with digital solutions, including production line automation.

In 2021, Konica Minolta Mechatronics installed a solar power generation system at its head office, which now provides approximately 13% of the electricity needed by the plant. The company reached its goal of sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources in FY2024 by purchasing non-fossil certificates with tracking across its four sites, including the head office.

As part of its broader commitment to tackling climate change, Konica Minolta has been reducing CO2 emissions throughout the product life cycle. The company’s long-term environmental vision, “Eco Vision 2050,” was first introduced in 2009. In May 2023, Konica Minolta updated this vision to target “net zero” CO2 emissions by 2050, an increase from the previous goal of an 80% reduction.

Konica Minolta is also a member of RE100, a global initiative for companies committed to 100% renewable energy. The company is enhancing its efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by sourcing 100% renewable energy across all operations by 2050. Konica Minolta’s ambitious targets were validated by the SBT initiative in July 2024, supporting the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.
