Kraig Biocraft Begins Processing Record 1.8 MT Spider Silk

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc., a global leader in spider silk technology, has commenced processing nearly 1.8 metric tonnes of recombinant spider silk cocoons into finished reeled silk.
Earlier this month, the company reported a record production of over 1.3 metric tonnes of cocoons in March. It has now confirmed an additional half tonne of production that was not included in the initial report, taking the total available cocoon inventory to nearly 1.8 metric tonnes.
The reeling process is currently underway at one of the company’s production partner facilities and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Once finished, this will mark the largest inventory of recombinant spider silk in the company’s history—and, to its knowledge, the largest single supply ever produced globally.
The finished silk will be made available for further processing, including yarn twisting and integration into a range of applications such as luxury fashion, performance textiles, and industrial materials.
Senior management is currently in Asia overseeing operations, working closely with production teams to monitor reeling activities, assess facility performance, and coordinate with supply chain partners. The visit also supports the execution of the company’s aggressive scale-up strategy aimed at rapidly expanding production capacity in the coming months.
“The execution we are seeing across our operations is tracking exactly as expected,” said Kim Thompson, Founder and CEO. “This reflects the groundwork our team has laid over the past three years to build robust production infrastructure and refine field operations. We are now seeing that preparation translate into consistent, scalable output.”
