Maharashtra CM Plans Technical Textile Mission, Solar-Powered Mills
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed officials to take proactive measures to strengthen the state’s textile sector. During a review of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj’s 100-day action plan on Monday, the CM announced the establishment of the Maharashtra Technical Textile Mission (MTTM) and the Maharashtra State Textile Development Corporation (MSTDC). He also highlighted the state’s active participation in Bharat Tex 2025, scheduled to be held in New Delhi.
To further promote the sector, Fadnavis called for inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to set up technical textile parks and emphasized the effective implementation of the Captive Market Scheme to support the local textile industry. For handloom weavers, he directed the implementation of an old-age pension scheme to ensure their social security.
As part of the Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023-28, the Chief Minister urged the development of ‘Urban Haat’ centres to promote and support handloom artisans. He also proposed collaborating with Prasar Bharati to broadcast the inaugural episode of Kargha, a series highlighting the traditional textile industry.
Fadnavis stressed the need for innovation and efficiency, instructing officials to digitize and automate schemes within the textile department. He also encouraged the adoption of solar energy in spinning mills across the state to enhance sustainability.
