Meijer Donates US$ 250,000 To Detroit-Based Industrial Sewing And Innovation Center

Meijer has announced a donation of $250,000 to the Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center (ISAIC), a Detroit-based national non-profit organization. ISAIC focuses on training the next generation of textile and apparel manufacturing industry talent through an innovative curriculum that blends technical skills, soft skills and digital literacy.

Established in 2020, ISAIC addresses two critical challenges in the sewn goods industry: the shortage of skilled workers and the lack of innovation in the US domestic textile and apparel manufacturing. The organization benefits from the support of longtime Meijer partner Carhartt Inc., which has generously provided approximately 12,000 square feet of dedicated space on the third floor of its flagship Midtown store for ISAIC’s operations.

Jen Guarino, President and CEO of ISAIC, expressed gratitude for Meijer’s donation, stating, “This contribution will greatly support our mission of empowering individuals and transforming communities. It will facilitate our expansion efforts and enable us to reach more individuals seeking new opportunities and skills in this growing sector.”

Meijer’s donation reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing lives in the communities it serves, with a focus on education and workforce training. Maureen Mitchell, Meijer’s Regional Vice President for East Michigan, emphasized the company’s pride in supporting ISAIC and its efforts to provide access to high-quality training and employment opportunities for the Detroit community.
