Morocco Climbs To 8th Spot In EU Textile Export Rankings

Morocco has advanced to the eighth position among the European Union’s top textile and apparel suppliers, according to the Moroccan Association of Textile and Apparel Industries (AMITH). This marks a continued rise from 10th in 2023 and 9th in 2024, fueled by strong export performance in early 2025.
As of February 2025, EU imports of Moroccan textiles and clothing reached €4.26 million — an 8% year-on-year increase from €3.96 million. The growth was driven by robust exports to Spain (+17%), Portugal (+3%), and Germany (+16%).
Spain remains Morocco’s top European customer, importing textiles worth €243 million, up from €207 million last year. Exports to Germany climbed to €30 million from €25 million. However, exports to France declined 4% to €96.3 million, while shipments to Italy and the Benelux region also fell.
Despite its improved EU ranking, Morocco continues to trail behind China, Bangladesh, Turkey, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Pakistan.
Trousers lead Morocco’s textile exports, generating MAD 330 million in January 2025. T-shirts followed with MAD 247 million, while woven shirts and pullovers brought in MAD 77 million and MAD 44 million, respectively.
Overall, Morocco’s global textile and apparel exports stood at MAD 3.47 billion in January 2025, slightly down 1% from MAD 3.52 billion a year earlier.
While traditional European markets show signs of slowing, Morocco’s expanding footprint in Southern and Northern Europe reflects its strategic shift to diversify and remain competitive amid Asian dominance in the global textile trade.
