Panda Biotech Initiates Commissioning For Largest Hemp Processing Facility
Panda Biotech announced the completion of construction for its Panda High Plains Hemp Gin and the initiation of the official commissioning process in early Q4 2023. The 500,000 square feet facility in Wichita Falls, Texas, is set to become one of the largest hemp decortication centres globally. The Panda Hemp Gin will process 10 metric tonnes of industrial hemp per hour, producing textile-grade fibre, hurd, short-fibre hurd mix and a nutrient-rich co-product.
The commissioning process, a crucial step before commercial operations commence in Q1 2024, involves individually starting, checking, balancing and commissioning each component of the production line. Panda Biotech Executive Vice President Scott Evans highlighted the meticulous approach to ensure the seamless operation of the facility.
The Panda Hemp Gin distinguishes itself as environmentally conscious, utilizing only renewable energy sources. It has received certification as a green project by Mid-South Engineering Company, aligning with the International Capital Market Association’s Green Bond Principles. Panda Biotech has partnered with Oritain for scientific traceability, ensuring the hemp used is 100 per cent grown in the United States.
Panda Biotech is actively engaging producers for the 2024 growing season, offering a groundbreaking pay-to-grow programme. This initiative provides upfront, guaranteed payments, agronomy support and tested seed at no cost to producers, mitigating risks and emphasizing Panda’s commitment to the farming community. Hemp’s benefits, including soil remediation and competitive margins, make it an attractive rotational crop.
