PDS Ltd Launches Solar Power Plant And 2023 Sustainability Report
PDS Limited has announced two significant sustainability milestones in alignment with the company’s commitment to fostering a more eco-friendly fashion value chain. The company has launched a solar power plant at its manufacturing unit, Green Smart Shirts Ltd (GSSL) in Bangladesh and unveiled the third edition of its annual Sustainability Report.
The solar power plant at GSSL in Bangladesh generates one megawatt (MWh) of renewable green energy and has the potential to mitigate over 10,000 tonnes/kWh of carbon emissions during its lifetime. This installation has positioned the facility to potentially receive a LEED Platinum certification, an upgrade from its current Gold certification.
With this latest addition, two out of PDS’s three manufacturing facilities are now powered by renewable energy sources. The subsidiary in Sri Lanka, Norlanka, was the first to adopt this approach, installing a solar power plant that generates over 70,000 kilowatts (kWh) of energy.
The PDS Group Sustainability Report 2023 offers insights into various sustainability initiatives undertaken by PDS and its business verticals, all of which uphold the company’s four pillars of sustainability: Respect Water, Reduce Emissions, Think Circular and Build Community. The report comprehensively outlines the company’s progress in achieving various milestones within each sustainability pillar.
Pallak Seth, Executive Vice Chairman, expressed PDS’s unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency and sustainability. He highlighted PDS Ventures, their innovation arm, which is actively investing in scalable inventions in areas such as sustainable cotton production, material science and technology.
Sanjay Jain, Group Chief Executive Officer, emphasized that sustainability is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the organization. He stated that all their initiatives reflect PDS’s commitment to a sustainable future. He underscored that the PDS Group Sustainability Report 2023 showcases the many milestones achieved, from water conservation in their factories to community-building initiatives worldwide.
