Punjab Pushes Energy Efficiency Drive For Textile And MSME Sector

A technical workshop on Accelerating Energy Efficiency in MSMEs brought together more than 60 industry leaders, energy experts and government officials in Punjab to promote sustainable manufacturing practices and encourage the adoption of energy-efficient technologies across the state’s industrial sector.

The workshop, jointly organized by the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), the District Industries Centre (DIC) and a German development agency, focused on helping micro, small and medium enterprises improve productivity while reducing energy consumption and operating costs.

Industry representatives, policymakers and technical experts discussed the growing importance of energy efficiency as a key driver of industrial competitiveness and sustainability. The event highlighted the Punjab government’s ADEETIE and RAMP programmes, which are designed to support MSMEs in adopting modern technologies and resource-efficient manufacturing practices.

Experts explained how the schemes provide technical assistance, detailed energy audits and financial support to enable enterprises to identify energy-saving opportunities and implement efficiency measures. Participants were also briefed on the long-term benefits of investing in advanced machinery, process optimization and energy management systems.

The textile sector, a major contributor to Punjab’s industrial economy, was identified as one of the key beneficiaries of such initiatives. Industry stakeholders noted that reducing energy consumption can significantly lower production costs while helping manufacturers meet increasingly stringent sustainability requirements in domestic and export markets.

Speakers emphasized that energy efficiency is becoming essential for the future growth of MSMEs, particularly at a time when industries are facing rising energy costs and increasing pressure to improve environmental performance. They stressed that government support programmes can play a crucial role in accelerating the transition towards greener and more competitive manufacturing.

The workshop concluded with a call for stronger collaboration between industry, government agencies and technical institutions to expand the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and strengthen the sustainability of Punjab’s manufacturing sector.
