Reliance Unveils R|Elan GreenGold

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has introduced R|Elan™ GreenGold, a 100% recycled polyester fabric designed to provide verified sustainability and full traceability, addressing growing concerns of greenwashing in the textile industry. The fabric, made entirely from post-consumer PET bottles, combines responsible sourcing, independent scientific validation, and circularity-led initiatives, positioning it as a credible alternative for global brands.
Unlike conventional recycled polyester, GreenGold is built on a closed-loop, brand-controlled ecosystem. Every bottle collected and processed into fibre is tracked via reverse vending machines and compliant vendor networks, ensuring end-to-end transparency from waste collection to fabric production.
The authenticity of the recycled content is further validated using Isophthalic Acid (IPA) testing, a chemistry-based method that confirms the PET-bottle origin of the fibre. Independent tests consistently show ~1.8% IPA content, giving brands measurable proof of the material’s recycled credentials.
RIL has extended GreenGold beyond fabric into a platform promoting circularity and sustainability. Initiatives include the Circular Design Challenge (CDC), supporting designers and entrepreneurs to embed recycling in fashion, and the Earth Tee campaign, where limited-edition GreenGold tees are sold via NGOs, with proceeds dedicated to tree plantation.
“With R|Elan™ GreenGold, we are not just offering a sustainable fabric but a science-backed, traceable solution that builds trust across the value chain,” said a Reliance spokesperson.
R|Elan™ GreenGold combines environmental responsibility, brand credibility, and circular design, making it a benchmark for the global recycled polyester market.
