Seminar In Jabalpur Highlights Synergy Between Textiles And Green Energy

A seminar on ‘Textiles & Green Energy – The New Vision’ was held at the Readymade Garment Cluster Hall, bringing together key industry leaders, associations and stakeholders to discuss sustainable growth opportunities in the textile and fashion sectors.

Organized jointly by ITAMMA, Kasrawad Art Cluster, Shivalik Jankalyan Samiti, and Laghu Udyog Bharati, the event focused on the operational dynamics of Jabalpur’s readymade garment and fashion cluster, one of India’s largest, with over 450 units.

Omprakash Mantry, President of ITAMMA (2025–26), addressed the gathering virtually, emphasizing the need for responsible, sustainable, and innovation-driven development in textile machinery and accessories, especially in the garment, retail, and fashion sectors.

N.D. Mhatre, Director General (Technical), ITAMMA, highlighted the growing role of India’s textile and apparel (T&A) industry in global markets. He noted that garment manufacturing offers significant employment potential creating 50 jobs per crore of investment compared to only eight in spinning, weaving, and processing combined. He called for export promotion, skill development through state-wise centers, and the creation of plug-and-play infrastructure with advanced machinery.

Mhatre also addressed the disconnect between creative fashion design and process-driven machine manufacturing, stressing the importance of blending both to meet global standards. He emphasized the opportunity for smart manufacturing using IoT and 5G technologies, as most machines in Indian garmenting units are currently imported or assembled.

Presentations were also made by Seema Mishra (Kasrawad Art Cluster & Shivalik Jankalyan Samiti), Somesh Gupta (Readymade Cluster & Laghu Udyog Bharati), Vineet Rajak (Fashion & Design Garment Association), and representatives from Ashra Retail Pvt. Ltd., a TATA Rooftop channel partner, on driving solar adoption in the textile industry.

A major takeaway from the seminar was the shared challenge among the 400+ cluster units: difficulty in accessing quality machine spares. A proposal was put forth to establish a “Spare Part & Accessories Gallery-cum-Clinic” to enable ITAMMA members to showcase solutions and provide technical support for improved productivity and product development.

The seminar concluded with optimism and a collaborative push toward innovation, sustainability, and market expansion.
