Star Garments Sets Global Wheels In Motion With First Overseas Factory In Togo

Star Garments Group, part of the U.S.-based Charles Komar & Sons has officially launched its first international manufacturing facility in Togo, West Africa, marking a defining moment for both the company and the region’s emerging textile economy.
The new 3.7-hectare factory, located within the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA), was inaugurated in the presence of Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé, symbolizing not just an expansion, but a strategic shift toward Africa as a future apparel manufacturing powerhouse.
“This isn’t just a building with machines. It’s our promise, Komar’s promise, to the people of Togo: for jobs, skills, and a future built on dignity and excellence,” said Charlie Komar, CEO of Charles Komar & Sons.
The Togo facility marks Star Garments’ debut beyond Sri Lanka, with the island nation continuing as a key service hub. The new plant will plug into Star’s integrated global supply chain, enabling faster turnaround times and greater manufacturing agility.
At full capacity, the factory is designed to produce 50,000 garments per day, specializing in nightwear, loungewear and layered apparel for international brands. But the real impact goes far beyond output: the project is expected to generate 2,000 direct jobs for Togolese nationals, with women accounting for more than 60% of hires. Projections estimate over 4,500 direct and indirect jobs by 2030.
Equipped with robust training programmes, the facility aims to build a skilled workforce, boosting industrial capabilities and aligning with Togo’s development agenda. The focus on export-driven production is also set to contribute significantly to the country’s foreign exchange earnings and global trade presence.
