Sudhir Sekhri Takes Over As Chairman Of AEPC
Sudhir Sekhri, a seasoned figure in the apparel industry, has taken the reins as the new Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC). With over four decades in readymade garment manufacturing and currently serving as the Managing Partner of Trendsetter International, Sekhri is set to address the recent decline in RMG (Ready-Made Garments) exports.
In his initial statement, Chairman Sekhri stated, “My immediate priority is to explore strategies to counter the recent dip in RMG exports. I am committed to reinforcing the Council’s capabilities and implementing measures for both market and product diversification.” Sekhri aims to collaborate closely with the government to facilitate smooth trade and achieve the ambitious target of reaching $40 billion in RMG exports by 2030.
Outlining his vision, Sekhri acknowledged the evolving dynamics of the supply chain and emphasized the need for India to seize opportunities left by competing countries. He envisions every RMG manufacturing unit in India becoming ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) compliant, fostering collaboration between industry, government and the Council to strengthen Made-in-India RMG products globally.
Chairman Sekhri sees the Bharat Tex Expo 2024 as a significant step toward showcasing India’s strengths across the entire textile value chain. He envisions the event as a platform to highlight the quality and value of Indian RMG products on a global scale.
Sudhir Sekhri, a graduate of NIT Kurukshetra, brings not only a wealth of industry experience but also a strong background in sports. He has been actively involved in various industry associations, including AEPC, Garment Exporters & Manufacturers Association (GEMA), Apparel Training and Design Center (ATDC), and Apparel Made-Ups Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC).
