Tamil Nadu Cotton Acreage Up 10% In 2022-23 Season
According to the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU), cotton acreage in the southern state of Tamil Nadu has risen 10 percent in the 2022-23 cotton season as against the previous season.
Cotton cultivation has increased to 1.62 lakh hectares, which is a hike of 10 percent in sowing area. This has resulted in production of 3.56 lakh bales of 170 kgs each during the 2022-23 season.
“The rise in cultivation is seen across all major cotton producing districts like Perambalur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Ariyalur, Trichy, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Cuddalore,” a statement from TNAU said.
TNAU conducted an analysis and market survey which indicated that the farm gate price of good quality cotton between October and November 2023 would be Rs 6,800-7,000 per quintal.
The university advised cotton farmers to take selling decisions based on the results of the survey.
