Teijin Frontier Develops Breathable, Heat-Retaining Polyester Textile

Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd has developed a new polyester-based textile that combines high heat retention with exceptional breathability, offering improved comfort for sports and outdoor apparel.

Designed for the Fall/Winter 2027 season, the fabric features a lightweight, three-dimensional structure that delivers warmth while reducing heat build-up. The company said the material also offers a soft texture, airy appearance and enhanced moisture management, making it suitable for both performance wear and everyday fashion.

The textile is produced by splitting a double Raschel knitted fabric that combines low-crimp yarn with bulky, high-crimp textured yarn. This creates a lofty, air-filled structure that improves insulation while maintaining high airflow. According to Teijin Frontier, the fabric provides more than twice the breathability of conventional products, depending on the fabric design.

The material also wicks moisture efficiently by transferring sweat through capillary action for faster drying, helping to reduce discomfort caused by sweat retention. Its three-dimensional structure ensures long-term shape retention even after repeated laundering.

The textile can be manufactured using recycled polyester as well as virgin polyester, offering a more sustainable option. In addition, its non-brushed filament construction sheds fewer fibres during washing, helping reduce the release of ocean-bound microplastics.

Teijin Frontier aims to sell 50,000 metres of the new textile in fiscal 2027, increasing to 250,000 metres by fiscal 2029.
