Textile Ministers’ Conference Sets Roadmap In Guwahati

The National Textiles Ministers’ Conference concluded in Guwahati on January 8, after two days of deliberations focused on strengthening India’s textile ecosystem through innovation, sustainability, heritage preservation and export growth. The event saw the participation of textile ministers and officials from states and Union territories across the country.

Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita said the conference generated serious dialogue on critical areas of the textile sector and expressed confidence that the discussions would help shape a clear roadmap toward making India a global textile hub.

On the second day, sessions centred on expanding exports, enhancing competitiveness and promoting global branding of Indian textiles. Centre-State dialogue also focused on policy support, expectations and pathways to achieving US$ 100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

A parallel session addressed the future of traditional textiles, handlooms and handicrafts, emphasizing heritage preservation, value addition and better market access for artisans and weavers. Participants called for greater convergence of schemes, design innovation and use of digital platforms to support income generation and sustainable livelihoods.

Senior officials highlighted the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states, urging state governments to leverage flagship schemes of the Ministry of Textiles across infrastructure development, technology upgradation and sustainability-linked initiatives.

The two-day conference marked a significant step toward stronger policy alignment, investment promotion and holistic development of India’s textile sector.
