In his acceptance speech, Mangukia expressed gratitude to outgoing Chairman M. Sankar (Lakshmi Machine Works – LMW) for his “dedicated leadership, vision and commitment to the association during his tenure.”

Insights from the Outgoing Chairman and Chief Guest
In his AGM address, Sankar highlighted the 29% decline in textile machinery production in FY25 to Rs 10,461 crore and a nearly 50% fall in exports, highlighting the challenges faced by the industry due to global uncertainties, high tariffs, and supply chain disruptions. He called for urgent reforms, including faster GST refunds, access to low-cost international export funding, and targeted incentives to counter US tariffs. He stressed that while capacity utilisation slipped to 60%, the domestic industry’s share in meeting demand has improved from 28% to 36%, reflecting resilience and growing self-reliance.

Chief Guest Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles

Chief Guest Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, lauded India’s unique position as one of the few nations with a complete textile value chain, from raw materials to garments and machinery. He reiterated the government’s vision of expanding the textile sector from US$ 176 billion to US$ 350 billion with US$ 100 billion exports, requiring investment of US$ 100 billion. Kansal stressed the need for the machinery sector to raise its contribution, noting that India currently imports Rs 17,000 crore worth of textile machinery annually.

He urged manufacturers to embrace sustainability, digitization, and circularity by developing energy-efficient, water-efficient, and recycling-supportive machines. Announcing plans for a National Textile Manufacturing Mission, Kansal emphasized collaboration through initiatives like Bharat Tex and assured industry support on policy, finance, and infrastructure. “India’s textile growth story is inseparable from the progress of its machinery manufacturing ecosystem,” he said.
