Caldera Launches DTF-Specific RIP Software To Support Growing Custom Apparel Market

Caldera has introduced a new Direct-to-Film (DTF)-specific RIP software, targeting the rapidly expanding segment of small and home-based garment decorators entering the custom apparel market. As DTF printing continues to move from a niche application to a mainstream decoration method, the company aims to lower technical barriers while maintaining professional-grade output.

Unlike Caldera’s traditional RIP solutions, which were primarily macOS- and Linux-based, the new DTF RIP is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux platforms. The move addresses a key gap in the DTF ecosystem, where a significant portion of users operate on Windows systems, and positions the software as a more accessible, cross-platform solution.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the DTF RIP features a streamlined, preset-driven interface that enables users to begin production quickly with minimal setup. After installation, users can connect a supported printer, load a predefined profile and start producing DTF transfers without complex calibration or workflow configuration. This approach is aimed particularly at entrepreneurs and small shops producing short-run custom apparel.

Despite its simplified workflow, the software is powered by Caldera’s established colour engine, developed over six to seven years for DTF and DTG applications. The platform delivers advanced white-ink generation for improved garment blending, reduced print stiffness and smoother tonal transitions. Most users receive pre-created colour profiles from printer or media partners, embedded directly into the RIP, significantly reducing onboarding time, while advanced operators retain access to fine-tuning and spot-colour controls.

The RIP also incorporates built-in knockout tools, allowing users to remove background colours directly within the software using an eyedropper and adjustable tolerance, eliminating the need for external image-editing programmes.

For higher-volume environments, the DTF RIP can integrate with Caldera’s PrimeCenter for workflow automation, layout optimisation and batching, with additional automation features planned for future releases. The software supports a wide range of printers from major manufacturers including Epson, Mimaki, Roland and Mutoh, as well as most established DTF devices.

With this launch, Caldera aims to bridge the gap between ease of use and professional production standards, offering an accessible solution for new entrants while supporting scalability for growing DTF operations.
