Textile City Being Set Up In Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur District
A Textile City will be set up on around 64 acres in Tamil Nadu’s Thirumazhisai in Tiruvallur district, which will be a one-stop destination for domestic and international buyers to purchase finished textile products.
The Textile City project will be implemented by the Handlooms, Handicrafts and Textiles department of Tamil Nadu, whose Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced the City in November
‘The project is aimed at marketing rather than manufacturing, with the primary target of the project being to tap the domestic market, due to a slowdown in major export markets of the EU and US,” the New Indian Express stated quoting sources.
The sources further added that that the Tamil Nadu Housing Secretary has given his nod to establish the facility.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board will be the final authority to decide on land use and financing of the project.
“A consultant has been asked to work out various models of implementation and submit a report,” the sources stated.
Tamil Nadu tops in textile production in the country, with 46 percent of spinning capacity, 60 percent of yarn export, 70 percent knitting capacity and 20 percent of powerlooms in the country.
