Apparel Industry Thanks Prime Minister For Support At Bharat Tex 2025

The apparel industry has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his encouraging address at the ‘Textiles Samvad’ during Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman Sudhir Sekhri lauded the Prime Minister’s vision, stating, “On behalf of the garment industry, we pledge to work relentlessly towards making India a developed nation by 2027. The government’s support for the employment-intensive garment sector, particularly for MSMEs and women, is highly commendable. Nearly 80% of garment exporters are MSMEs, and 80% of our workforce comprises women.”
Sekhri also welcomed the Prime Minister’s call for India to lead in ‘Fashion for Environment and Empowerment.’ “The garment industry is actively embracing sustainability and waste management through recycling. We are ahead of many developed nations in these efforts—sustainability is embedded in our industry’s DNA,” he said.
Highlighting Bharat Tex’s impact, he noted, “In just two years, Bharat Tex has become a vital platform, fostering collaborations across the textile value chain and strengthening partnerships between upstream and downstream industries.”
The Chairman also acknowledged the Union Budget 2025-26, which prioritizes MSMEs through government-guaranteed credit support and a mission to address tariff and non-tariff barriers. He emphasized that recent financial regulation reviews are laying a strong foundation for the sector’s growth.
On skill development, Sekhri praised the Prime Minister’s interaction with women workers who have advanced socio-economically through training and hard work.
He also welcomed the Prime Minister’s appeal for priority lending to MSMEs for capacity expansion, a move widely hailed by the industry. Additionally, he affirmed AEPC’s commitment to collaborations with premier institutions like IITs to foster innovation and strengthen the start-up ecosystem in the textile sector.
