BGMEA Partners With SDC To Advance Sustainable Textiles
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in education, sustainability and innovation across Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.
The partnership seeks to enhance industry capabilities by promoting knowledge and skill development in colour science, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies while supporting the adoption of sustainable manufacturing practices.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will work together to educate textile and garment professionals, encourage the use of natural fibres, plant-based dyes and bio-based materials, and strengthen links between academic research and industrial applications through collaboration with universities and research institutions.
The collaboration will also support pilot projects focused on bio-based materials, leverage BGMEA’s Innovation Center for applied research initiatives and create opportunities for international knowledge exchange. Industry professionals and researchers will gain access to SDC’s global network and publications, including Coloration Technology.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Graham Clayton, Chief Executive Officer, SDC, said, “Together with BGMEA, we are driving sustainable innovation and equipping Bangladesh’s textile industry with world-class expertise in colour science.”

Mijanur Rahman, Vice President (Finance), BGMEA, said the collaboration would further strengthen the industry’s technical capabilities and support innovation-driven growth.
“Bangladesh’s apparel industry has made remarkable progress in sustainability and responsible manufacturing. This collaboration with SDC will help prepare the industry to meet evolving global expectations through science-based knowledge, skills development and sustainable practices,” he said.
Mohammed Sohel, Director, BGMEA, noted that the initiative would connect Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector with global expertise in coloration science and sustainable innovation.
“By combining industry needs with international knowledge and research, we aim to build a future-ready workforce and accelerate the adoption of advanced, environmentally responsible technologies across the sector,” he said.
The MoU marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable innovation, strengthening technical education and enhancing the global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry.
