Chinese Delegation Explores Textile Investment Opportunities In Bangladesh

A high-level Chinese business delegation is exploring fresh investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s textile and textile chemical sectors, signalling growing cross-border interest in the country’s manufacturing ecosystem.
The 20-member delegation, currently in Dhaka, held discussions with the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) on April 27, focusing on investment prospects, policy incentives, and regulatory frameworks.
During the meeting, Chinese representatives sought clarity on government incentives for textile investments, tax and VAT structures related to textile chemical production, and the availability of rebates on machinery imports. They also explored land availability for setting up new projects.
In response, BCCCI officials outlined the range of fiscal incentives offered by the Bangladesh government and encouraged Chinese firms to consider strategic investments. The chamber emphasised the potential for joint ventures, particularly in the textile segment, where several mills are currently facing financial and technological constraints.
BCCCI President Mohd Khorshed Alam highlighted that nearly 40 textile mills could benefit from foreign collaboration, noting that Chinese participation could bring in much-needed capital and advanced technology, creating a win-win opportunity for both sides.
Beyond textiles, discussions also touched on expanding bilateral cooperation into areas such as banking, capital markets, renewable energy, and skill development. Proposals included opening branches of Chinese commercial banks, investing in Bangladesh’s stock market, developing solar power projects, and establishing technical and vocational training institutions to support technology transfer.
Li Lingshen, Vice President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, stated that both sides would further assess potential collaboration areas to deepen industrial partnerships. The delegation also included senior representatives from leading industry bodies such as the China Dyeing and Printing Association and major textile and chemical companies.
