Dr. Gurudas Aras Conferred Honorary Doctorate By Prestigious French University
In a remarkable recognition of his lifelong contributions to the textile industry, Dr. Gurudas Aras has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the esteemed French institution, École Supérieure De Robert Sorbon. The accolade was presented in recognition of his thesis titled “The Indian Textile Industry…Challenges and Solutions.”
A towering figure in the Indian textile and textile machinery sector, Dr. Aras brings with him over 43 years of industry experience, including 16 years in board-level positions. He is widely respected for his visionary leadership and deep expertise in engineering and management. A global medalist and a Mumbai University topper in Textile Engineering, Dr. Aras also holds a Master’s in Textile Engineering and a Postgraduate qualification in Marketing Management.
Currently serving as an Independent Director on the boards of six large companies and as a Strategic Advisor to four global firms, Dr. Aras is also a Ministry of Corporate Affairs-certified Independent Director and a CRISIL-certified ESG Risk Analyst. In 2018, he was honoured with the Service Gold Medal—the highest recognition by The Textile Association (India).
Dr. Aras has been instrumental in fostering Indo-European partnerships by facilitating joint ventures with leading European textile machinery companies. His contributions extend beyond industry, with active involvement in national bodies such as CII, FICCI, and the Indo-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce. He also plays a crucial role in shaping textile education in India as a member of the Board of Studies and Advisory Group at VJTI, Mumbai.
