Dupont Settlement To Strengthen Ohio’s Drinking Water Infrastructure

Eight years after a lawsuit was filed against DuPont over the release of forever chemicals into the Ohio river, Mike DeWine has announced the distribution of a US$ 65 million settlement reached in 2023.
Now serving as governor, DeWine outlined how the funds will support critical water infrastructure upgrades across Belmont, Gallia, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties, alongside Ohio EPA Director John Logue.
The investment will improve water treatment systems and address contaminated or at-risk wells, benefiting tens of thousands of residents in communities such as Little Hocking, Belpre, Marietta and Middleport.
“Access to safe drinking water is essential for every Ohio community,” DeWine said, emphasizing the long-term public health impact of the upgrades.
State representative Kevin Ritter added that the projects will significantly strengthen water systems and ensure cleaner, safer water for local communities.
