EURATEX And FTTH Sign Mou To Strengthen Euro-Mediterranean Textile Collaboration

Euro-Mediterranean industrial ties, EURATEX (European Apparel and Textile Confederation) and FTTH (Fédération Tunisienne du Textile et de l’Habillement) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Monastir, Tunisia. The agreement aims to boost cooperation in sustainability, investment, and trade under the updated Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention.
The signing took place at the Monastir Technopole, attended by high-level officials including the Governor of Monastir, Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, the EU Ambassador, and key industry stakeholders. The MoU establishes a structured platform for dialogue and collaboration between the European and Tunisian textile sectors—at a time when global supply chains are realigning and sustainability takes center stage.
“Europe and Tunisia share a long-standing and complementary relationship. In the face of rising environmental goals and regulatory changes, cooperation is crucial,” said EURATEX President Mario Jorge Machado. “This MoU provides a practical framework to boost competitiveness, resilience, and innovation across our shared textile ecosystem.”
The agreement reflects a broader vision of strengthening regional value chains through nearshoring, reducing reliance on distant suppliers, and promoting a sustainable, Mediterranean-based production model grounded in trust and mutual benefit.
Tunisia’s textile sector plays a vital role in the national economy, employing over 160,000 people across more than 1,600 companies. In 2024, Tunisia exported €2.5 billion worth of textiles and apparel to the EU, reinforcing its position as a key nearshoring partner. The MoU supports Tunisia’s efforts to evolve into a modern, circular, and globally competitive textile hub.
As the EU textile industry undergoes transformation, partnerships with neighbouring countries like Tunisia are seen as essential to building a more sustainable, resilient, and integrated regional supply chain.
