Hohenstein 2024 Sustainability Report Outlines Progress & Future Goals

Hohenstein, a global testing and research provider, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, outlining its progress and future goals. The report documents sustainability initiatives at its German headquarters and records the company’s global greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) for the first time.
Hohenstein sees ecological, social and economic sustainability as key success factors and has taken several significant steps:
- Environmental: A new combined heat and power plant and a photovoltaic system have been installed at the headquarters. An environmental team and officer are driving the adoption of the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Future emission reduction targets will be based on newly recorded greenhouse gas data.
- Social: The company has prioritized employee well-being through training, work-life balance initiatives and transparent communication. An internal survey revealed that 85% of employees are satisfied or very satisfied with Hohenstein, with most suggested improvements already implemented.
- Corporate Governance: Hohenstein has expanded HR consultations and colloquia to enhance communication with management. The Sustainable Development team has also been strengthened.
Hohenstein has long focused on environmental protection and resource conservation, as confirmed by an external KEFF+Check in 2024. With EMAS implementation planned for next year, the company aims to further enhance its sustainability efforts.
“Sustainability and responsible resource management are fundamental to us,” said CEO Dr. Stefan Droste. “The increasing frequency of extreme weather events underscores the urgency of climate action, and we are committed to playing our part.”
Hohenstein also supports clients in navigating evolving sustainability regulations. “2024 brought numerous new EU directives, some of which are still being finalized,” noted Katja Hetzer, Sustainability Development Manager. “We help businesses develop strategic sustainability approaches, ensuring compliance with corporate due diligence and sustainable product development.”
