HUGO BOSS Introduces Eightyards For Textile Upcycling

Eightyards GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the HUGO BOSS Group, officially commenced business operations. Based in Metzingen, the new venture enables HUGO BOSS to repurpose its surplus materials, giving them a new lease of life.

Eightyards operates across three core business areas: reselling, reusing, and re-, up-, and downcycling the Group’s surplus textiles for customers within and beyond the fashion industry. The initiative aligns with HUGO BOSS’s sustainability efforts and is led by two of the company’s former employees, Markéta Miltenberger, Director, and Placido Klitzke, Co-Director.

Daniel Grieder, CEO of HUGO BOSS, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The creation of Eightyards shows our great internal talents and their entrepreneurial spirit. I am excited to see the contribution that Eightyards will deliver to the circular economy.” He further highlighted that HUGO BOSS is already leveraging data-driven insights to enhance efficiencies across its value chain through initiatives like the Digital Campus and the digital TWIN program, with Eightyards marking another step toward a more sustainable future.

Beyond reselling, Eightyards transforms unused fabrics into new products, such as clothing, tote bags, shoe bags, pen etuis, and pillowcases. Since its launch, the venture has already started collaborating on initial projects with customers from the fashion and telecommunications sectors. Over the coming years, the goal is to establish Eightyards as a key global facilitator in repurposing surplus materials.

Markéta Miltenberger, Director of Eightyards, highlighted the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability, stating, “As a HUGO BOSS subsidiary, we have access to high-quality surplus materials which have been sourced under high ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) standards. This is an asset we want to leverage for our customers.” She also emphasized the venture’s ambition to drive cross-industry collaborations beyond the fashion sector.

With a strong focus on the individual needs of its customers, Eightyards aims to provide tailored solutions for different use cases. The company also plans to expand its material supply sources in the future, reinforcing its mission to contribute to the circular economy and create a more sustainable textile industry.
