India–Oman CEPA Talks Gain Momentum

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held talks with his Omani counterpart Anwar bin Hilal bin Hamdoun Al Jabri to advance bilateral trade and investment ties.

The discussion focused on unlocking opportunities under the proposed India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to strengthen economic cooperation and drive mutual growth. In a social media post, Goyal said the two sides explored ways to deepen engagement across sectors.

In recent days, Goyal has also held similar discussions with trade ministers from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait, signalling India’s broader push to strengthen economic partnerships in the Gulf region.

The CEPA, signed in Muscat in December 2025, is yet to be implemented. Once operational, it is expected to grant duty-free access to nearly 98% of India’s exports to Oman, including textiles, agricultural products and leather goods. In return, India will lower tariffs on key Omani exports such as dates, marble and petrochemical products.
