India’s Textile Industry Poised For Explosive Growth: Giriraj Singh

India’s textile industry is on track to reach a staggering US$ 350 billion by 2030, creating 3.5 crore new jobs, according to Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh. The announcement came during the curtain raiser event for Bharat Tex 2025 held on September 4, 2024 in New Delhi. Singh highlighted the potential for India to be recognized globally for its ‘Bharat’ brand and its commitment to green, sustainable textile products.

Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Textiles Secretary Rachna Shah and other senior ministry officials were also present at the event.

Singh highlighted the transformative impact of the Union Government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles, which is expected to significantly enhance production and promote Indian apparel branding on the global stage. He emphasized that the PLI scheme will not only streamline the textile value chain but also attract substantial foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country.

Highlighting India’s competitive edge, Singh pointed to the nation’s demographic dividend, asserting that it would propel India ahead of China in the global textile market. He called on state governments to actively participate in Bharat Tex 2025, describing the event as a testament to the “Make in India” spirit and the 5F vision of the Prime Minister—Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign.
