Monforts Joins Archroma And BW For Sustainable Textiles

Monforts is collaborating with Archroma and BW Converting to enhance sustainable solutions at the Monforts Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) in Mönchengladbach, Germany. This partnership aims to support dyeing and finishing manufacturers in their development projects, focusing on improving the quality and performance of finished products while maximizing productivity and resource utilization in finishing processes.

Later this year, Monforts will install BW Converting’s full-width Baldwin TexCoat digital spray unit on a stenter frame at the ATC. Saskia Kuhlen, Monforts technologist, stated, “Our ATC already houses two full Montex stenter finishing lines engineered for diverse processes, alongside a Thermex range for continuous dyeing of denim and woven fabrics. The new TexCoat installation will significantly enhance our capabilities, enabling customers to test textiles under real production conditions and receive recommendations for improving fabric finishes.”

The TexCoat G4 system revolutionizes the traditional water and energy-intensive pad-dry-cure finishing process by precisely applying various chemicals—such as softeners, antimicrobials, durable water repellents, flame retardants and resins—only where needed on the fabric surface. This innovative approach can reduce water, chemical and energy consumption by up to 50% compared to traditional methods.

Michael Schuhmann, Global Marketing Segment Manager for technical textiles at Archroma, emphasized the partnership’s importance, stating, “Archroma’s commitment to advancing sustainability solutions has led to this pivotal collaboration, which aims to help textile manufacturers achieve greater energy and water savings.”

Rick Stanford, Baldwin’s Vice-President of business development for textiles, added, “This partnership is the first time our three companies have committed to transformative change in dyeing and finishing, resulting in significantly lower consumption and increased productivity and quality. We believe our collaboration will exceed expectations.”

Beyond textile finishing, Monforts, Baldwin and Archroma will develop a versatile offering that includes coloration concepts and plans to expand their collaboration to continuous spray dye applications in the near future.
