PM Narendra Modi Highlights India’s Vision Of Viksit Bharat For Global Textile Leadership At Bharat Tex 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s growing stature in the global textile industry while addressing Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. He highlighted the event’s significance as a platform for showcasing India’s rich textile heritage, technological advancements and commitment to sustainability, reinforcing the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Bharat Tex 2025 has emerged as one of the largest integrated textile events, bringing together all twelve segments of the textile value chain. The Prime Minister pointed out that the second edition of the event has seen a significant increase in international participation, with exhibitors from over 120 countries attending, providing Indian businesses with unparalleled opportunities to expand their global footprint.

In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s remarkable progress in the textile sector, noting that textile exports have grown by 7% in the last year. He emphasized that India is now the world’s sixth-largest textile and apparel exporter, with ambitious plans to increase textile exports to Rs 9 lakh crore by 2030. The Prime Minister stressed that government-led initiatives, industry collaboration and an emphasis on value addition and quality manufacturing are key to achieving this target.

He outlined India’s competitive advantages, including a strong domestic supply chain, skilled workforce and government-backed programmes aimed at increasing productivity and efficiency in the textile sector. He noted that India’s textile industry is well-positioned to cater to global demand, particularly in emerging markets and high-value textile segments such as technical textiles, sustainable fabrics and smart textiles.

PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the textile industry by implementing forward-looking policies and fostering investments. Key initiatives include:

  • PLI Scheme for Textiles: Encouraging large-scale production of man-made fibres (MMF) and technical textiles to boost exports and domestic consumption.
  • PM MITRA Parks: The establishment of seven Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks across India to create world-class textile manufacturing hubs.
  • National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM): Focused on innovation and research in technical textiles to position India as a leader in specialized textile segments.
  • Mission for Cotton Productivity: Improving cotton yield and quality to ensure India remains a key supplier of high-quality cotton to global markets.

The Prime Minister urged banks and financial institutions to extend support to textile entrepreneurs and MSMEs, facilitating easier access to capital for scaling operations and adopting advanced manufacturing technologies.

PM Modi placed a strong emphasis on sustainability in the textile industry, calling for greater adoption of eco-friendly practices, circular economy models and sustainable material solutions. He noted that India’s textile recycling market is projected to grow significantly, reaching US$ 400 million in the coming years.

Highlighting India’s traditional expertise in textile craftsmanship, he encouraged startups and businesses to integrate heritage textile techniques with innovative innovations such as AI-driven textile manufacturing, smart textiles and bio-based fibres. He also stressed the importance of up-cycling and efficient waste management to reduce the environmental footprint of textile production.

With over 3,500 exhibitors and 50,000 business visitors, Bharat Tex 2025 serves as a crucial networking platform for forging new partnerships and exploring trade opportunities. The event facilitates collaboration between Indian and global stakeholders, including buyers, suppliers and policymakers, ensuring a more integrated and resilient global textile supply chain.

Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita were present at the event, along with prominent industry leaders, entrepreneurs and investors. The event also hosted discussions on future trends in the textile industry, digital transformation and policy frameworks supporting textile innovation and exports.
