Turkmenistan: Italian Textile Machinery Targets High-Tech Specialisation

The Italian textile machinery industry is set to strengthen its presence in the Turkmen market with a strong Made in Italy delegation participating in TURKMEN TEXTILE EXPO 2026, scheduled to be held in Ashgabat from June 4–6, 2026.

The Italian participation, coordinated by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and ACIMIT, aims to reinforce Italy’s technological leadership in a strategic market that offers significant long-term growth opportunities.

Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its position as an important player in the global textile industry. Cotton remains the country’s third-largest export commodity, and the government is actively pursuing the development of a fully integrated domestic textile value chain capable of processing raw cotton locally into higher-value finished products.

Achieving this ambitious industrial vision requires sustained investment in advanced textile technologies, making machinery modernisation a critical pillar of the country’s broader economic diversification strategy.

Against this backdrop, Italy is positioning itself as a preferred technology partner for Turkmen textile manufacturers. Following strong performance in 2023, when Italian textile machinery exports to Turkmenistan reached €13 million, the market is currently undergoing a natural transition phase as it awaits the implementation of fresh investment plans repeatedly announced by local authorities.

Among the most sought-after Italian technologies in the Turkmen market are accessories, accounting for 56% of total exports, followed by spinning machinery (31%) and knitting machinery (13%).

Commenting on market prospects, the President of ACIMIT stated, “The Turkmen market is entering a new phase of maturity. Looking ahead, we see considerable opportunities linked to the modernisation of existing facilities and the implementation of upcoming public-sector investment programmes, particularly those focused on high-tech specialisation.

The flexibility, versatility and advanced technological capabilities developed through the continuous R&D efforts of Italian manufacturers enable us to deliver customised and innovative solutions, reaffirming Italian technology as the ideal choice for Turkmenistan’s industrial future.”

The Italian companies participating in the Italy Pavilion include Bianco, Color Service, Corino Macchine, Dover Industries Italy, Itema, M.C.S. Officina Meccanica, Marzoli Machines Textile, Mesdan, Salvadè, Savio Macchine Tessili and Stalam.
