AMA Herbal Secures Indian Patent For Fruit-Waste Based VegeBact-N Textile Technology

AMA Herbal Group has been granted a patent by the Government of India for VegeBact-N, an innovative antibacterial and deodorizing textile treatment derived from fruit waste. The patented process converts discarded fruit material into a safe, metal-free formulation that can be applied to fabrics without harming human health or the environment.
Developed entirely in India, VegeBact-N aligns with AMA Herbal’s mission to provide the textile industry with natural, non-toxic and eco-conscious solutions. It addresses growing global demand for sustainable textile finishing, particularly from brands seeking to replace chemical-based treatments with cleaner alternatives.
The company described the patent as both a corporate milestone and a strong signal to the global market that environmentally responsible innovations from India are gaining scientific and commercial validation. It underscores the country’s increasing strength in sustainable manufacturing and green chemistry.
Historically, many antibacterial textile treatments have relied on metal-based compounds containing nano-particles. These could penetrate the skin, enter the bloodstream, and contaminate water bodies during washing, harming aquatic ecosystems by killing beneficial microorganisms.
VegeBact-N offers a natural solution. Made from fruit waste such as apples, grapes, sugarcane and oranges, the product contains 98% plant-based content, forms a thin protective layer on fabric that inhibits odor-causing bacteria, and keeps garments fresher for longer. The treatment remains effective for over 40 washes, reducing the need for frequent laundering and supporting water conservation—an important benefit for regions facing water scarcity.
The technology is metal-free, cost-effective and compatible with existing infrastructure, allowing mills or laundries to integrate it during production or during the final rinse stage without additional investment. It is suitable for everyday clothing, innerwear, children’s apparel, and home textiles, and also supports livelihood generation through the collection and utilization of fruit waste.
AMA Herbal stated that the Indian patent reinforces its commitment to drive the textile sector toward safer, sustainable and nature-friendly practices, and will serve as a foundation for future growth and innovation.
Speaking on the achievement, Yawar Ali Shah, Co-Founder and CEO of AMA Herbal, said:
“Keeping our vision of spreading awareness about the benefits of natural products and making them accessible to people, we developed VegeBact-N. It is a metal-free product that is just as effective as conventional alternatives. Moreover, VegeBact-N is more affordable compared to metal-based products. These qualities enhance its acceptance, and being cost-effective, it will not create any challenges for the industries associated with it.”
